Flat to positive start likely


Indian markets may open on a flat to positive note tracking positive Asian cues and on account of SGX Nifty trading 23.50 points higher. Events for the day: Ex-date for dividend of Uco Bank and Corporation Bank. Ex-date for final dividend of Prism cement and VST Industries. Headlines for the day: Gas output from RIL's KG-D6 fields drops to 31.5 mmcmd. Indian economy is in stagflation: Moody's. PSU bank employees' strike on July 25-26. CCI to write to oil firms on raising prices in unison. Indian Indices: On the last day of the week, the Indian markets may open on a flat to positive note tracking positive Asian cues and on account of SGX Nifty trading 23.50 points higher. Yesterday, Monthly Inflation numbers were released. The Inflation for May 2012 came in at 7.55% as compared to 7.2% seen in the April month. On Thursday (June 14, 2012), the Sensex closed at 16677, down by 202 points while Nifty settled at 5054, slipping by 66 points. Global Indices: Asian shares edged up on Friday (June 15, 2012), as the nervous investors took comfort from plans for coordinated action by major central banks to stabilize markets if Sunday's election in Greece results could ease the turmoil. European shares extended their losses on Thursday (June 14, 2012), after the data which showed that US jobless claims had risen. US stocks advanced in a volatile session on Thursday, after news came that major central banks are preparing coordinated action if the results of Greek elections on this weekend could lead to turmoil in financial markets. Daily trend of FII/MF investment in equities: The FIIs have been the net buyers Indian stocks to the tune of Rs272.30 crore on June 13, 2012. The domestic investors bought Indian shares worth a net of Rs88 crore on June 13, 2012. The data is as per the SEBI website. Commodity Cues: Oil prices fell on Thursday with investors and traders reluctant to add to positions ahead of a meeting later in the day of oil producer group OPEC and Greek elections at the weekend.
